Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2020: Details & Tips

While shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale might look a bit different this year (thanks coronavirus), I am still as excited as ever. It is one of my favorite sales to shop and it all started when I was a little girl and my mom would take me “back to school shopping.” It is the best time of the year to buy name brand, in-season items at a discount.

If you are a Nordstrom card holder, then you get early access to the sale. Having early access means you get to shop before it opens to the public. This year they have changed it up a bit and instead of a catalog, they are opening up the sale to “preview” July 24. The higher your cardholder status, the earlier you get to shop. See the dates below to determine when you can start shopping!

    Tips For Shopping the Sale:

The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is the perfect time to buy fall/winter staples that you will wear all season long – like boots, jeans, jackets, active wear, and tons of other great pieces.

1.The biggest piece of advice I can give is if you see an item you really like and they have your size, buy it. Here’s why:

    • Nordstrom has a great return policy and offers free shipping and returns.
    • Popular items will sell out of stock and you may not have the opportunity to buy them again.
    • Snag an item you are on the fence about and try it on in the comfort of your own home. You never know if you will like it until you try it on.

    2. Don’t forget to take inventory of what you have in your closet. Get rid of what doesn’t fit or needs to be replaced. Use this as a guide when shopping the sale.

    3. Did you know that Nordstrom has a wishlist tool? I have added everything I plan to buy to my wishlist so that all I have to do is click “add to cart” when the sale goes live. This is huge when trying to stick to a budget.

    4. Stay persistent. As the sale goes on, items will re-stock so make sure to keep checking the website.

    5. Lastly, have fun and don’t stress!

10 Fourth of July Outfit Ideas

The Fourth of July is quickly approaching! There may not be as many fireworks this year, but I think there will still be quite a few small gatherings. I was online browsing and found SO MANY cute items that I thought would be perfect to wear to any fourth celebration. I found a few pool outfits, something to wear to a BBQ, fireworks show, date, or girls day!

Most of the items are Amazon prime and can be here in time for the 4th or from retailers that ship super fast. As always, most everything is under $50 because you know I’m on a budget! I will link each item underneath the photo for you. Enjoy!

My Picks From the Sephora Spring Savings Event

It’s officially that time of year! The Sephora Spring Savings Event is here. The sale start dates are staggered depending on your beauty insider status. The higher the status, the more the savings. Its free to sign up to be a Beauty Insider on their website if you’re not already.

    • VIB members – save 15% April 21-April 29
    • Beauty Insiders – save 10% April 23-April 27

I like to use the sale as an opportunity to stock up on my go-to products and purchase a few items that I have been wanting to try. I know scrolling through endless products on the website can get overwhelming, so I thought I would share my picks with you here.

    Go-to Makeup.

These are all the make-up items that I use on a daily basis. The CC cream, eyeshadow palette, and tarte lipstick in the color “salt lyfe” are holy grail products that I have used for years. I will definitely be re-ordering. The Kosas cream blush and highlighter palette is a new MVP but one I highly recommend! I use the color “velvet melon” it gives the prettiest peach glow.

    Go-to Skin + Hair.

I can’t live without my living proof dry-shampoo, alpha beta peel pads, and tanning drops. I love the makeup eraser towel too – it helps remove your makeup without any cleanser! Jo Malone “english pear and freesia” is my go-to perfume and I love the brazilian bum bum cream. My friends always steal this when we go on girls trips. It smells like you are somewhere tropical!

    What’s In My Cart.

I have been dying to try the hourglass bronzer and concealer. I have also heard nothing but amazing things about the olaplex hair treatment and the charlotte tilbury setting powder!

    DAILYLOOK Personal Styling Box Review

One of the most frequent comments I get when people learn that I am an influencer is, “I don’t know how you find time.” Since I work a full time job and run this blog on the side, one of the hardest things to do is find time to SHOP which is why I am so excited to partner with DAILYLOOK to try out their personal styling service.

DAILYLOOK is a premium box styling service that delivers hand-picked straight to your doorstep. As picky as I am about clothes, I was nervous having someone else pick them out, so I was delighted to take a style quiz so that my stylist can get to know my style, budget, and lifestyle preferences. I was so impressed at how perfectly the box was curated for me! I ended up getting a black sparkly dress, a cozy knit top, and a stunning forest green wrap dress. All three fit me perfectly and were great additions to my wardrobe.

One of my favorite parts about this service is that there is no pressure to buy anything. In fact, prior to shipping you get a chance to preview your box and have the ability to switch up to 3 items. Once the box arrives you can try everything on in the comfort of your own home and whatever you don’t want to keep, you simply send back with the free prepaid shipping label. So easy!

The styling fee is only $40 per box which goes towards any piece you decide to purchase. So really, the styling service is free if you purchase even one thing. They were kind enough to give me a discount code so you can use HEATHER20 for $20 off your styling fee!

Be sure to check out DAILYLOOK and sign up to try their monthly style box! What do you have to lose?

This post is sponsored by DailyLook. As always, all opinions are my own and I’m so thankful to work with amazing companies that I love!

Packing List and Itinerary for New Orleans

What a weekend! I just returned from my best friends Bachelorette weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana! After receiving some questions, I thought I would share what I brought to wear and include our itinerary! I’m sharing some of my no-brainer staples along with a few fun pieces I purchased for this trip.

There are a few things that are an absolute must have any time I travel so let me just jump right into those:

The best high-waist jeans. These run true to size and come in several different washes. I own the medium and dark washes

The most comfortable white sneakers. Although I packed a cute pair of heels and ankle boots, I wore these sneakers for the majority of the trip. They are so comfortable for places that require a lot of walking!

My most worn sunglasses. These were a Black Friday purchase and literally go with everything.

My favorite black leggings. These are the most comfortable pair and a total dupe for the lululemon align leggings.

A wide brim hat. Whether its going to be cold, sunny, or rainy a hat is always a good idea. Plus its the easiest way to give a little extra edginess to your outfits.

What to Pack for New Orleans

In addition to the staples, its all about cute and flowy dresses and shoes that are comfortable to move in! There is a lot of walking and dancing that goes on in New Orleans, so its best to plan accordingly. I also suggest wearing a shoe that is easy to clean. I like to wipe my sneakers with a magic eraser if they get dirty!

    Comfy Daytime Outfits

    outfit 1: hat // floral top // cardigan // belt // jeans // shoes

    outfit 2: dress // bag // shoes

    outfit 3: jacket // dress // shoes

    Evening Outfits

dress // leather skirt // black bodysuit similar here // leopard bodysuit // heels

    Cozy Active/Loungewear

long sleeve tie-dye pullover // black leggings // white tunic // leopard leggings // white sneakers

    Itinerary

    DAY ONE:

Breakfast at Cafe Du Monde – must have beignets and cafe au lait. Make sure you get there early as the line gets long. It is a New Orleans staple and a big tourist spot. It’s also cash only.

Lunch at Elizabeth’s. This place was so fun and full of art and character. I had the redneck eggs and a Jalepeno-Pineapple Margarita.

Day Drinking at Bacchanal. Can’t recommend this place enough. You walk in and buy your own wine and cheese inside and then walk out to the back patio where there is live jazz music and tons of tables to sit and enjoy your yummy wine and cheese! There is a full bar inside if you aren’t a wine drinker.

Happy Hour at The Carousel Bar. The bar surrounds an old carousel that spins slowly while you sit. The drinks were great and the ambiance was so cool!

Dinner at Antoine’s. This place is historic and is one of the oldest restaurants in the country. great for large parties. We snagged a private room and the service was incredible. I will say it was pretty pricey and the entrees do not come with sides. I had the Pompano Pontchartrain. Also highly recommend the french onion soup.

We ended the night walking on Bourbon Street and popped in and out of bars. Don’t stray from your group. It can be dangerous and there are some creepers!

    DAY TWO:

Brunch at Broussard’s. Jazzy Boozy brunch in the most gorgeous location. The walls were pink with diamond chandeliers. Plus they had a jazz trio that took song requests and would serenade the table. They also have bottomless mimosas and this was one of the best meals I had. If the weather is nice, theres a gorgeous courtyard area for outdoor seating.

Day Drinking at Pat O’Brien’s on Bourbon Street. This place is another historic staple in New Orleans. The invented the drink called “The Hurricane.” We spent most of our time in the dueling piano bar area.

Awakening’s Pole Dance Fitness. If you are down for a fun way to get your heart rate up then I highly suggest this. Don’t be shy! We learned a sexy dance routine, learned how to do some tricks on the pole, and even dabbled in aerial acrobatics! This was so fun.

After this we went back to the condo and ordered carryout from Domenica’s. They have really yummy specialty pizzas but you MUST order the roasted cauliflower and the brussels sprout dish. I’ll be dreaming about that for the rest of time.

Drinks on Frenchman Street. Great live music bars including Cafe Negril, Blue Nile, Snug Harbor, the spotted Cat, and the Mansion.

    DAY THREE:

Brunch at Couvant inside the Eliza Jane Hotel. This Hotel is STUNNING. If you are looking for a place to stay I would highly recommend. The restaurant inside served a really great brunch. Get the chocolate croissant, potatoes and bacon.

    TIME FILLERS

Walk around the French Market, Jackson Square, WWI museum, and the French Quarter! Magazine street has some really cute shops and great restaurants.

How To Invest In A Wardrobe Staple

    wardrobe staple

free people easy street tunic // jeans // boots // hat

I am all about budget finds as you know. I normally limit my spending by purchasing multiple smaller items. That way I can have more clothes by not spending as much. Another way to get more bang for your buck is to invest in a “wardrobe staple” or two per season.

The first thing to consider when investing is making sure that that piece can be styled multiple different ways. For example, I was able to style this Free People Easy Street tunic 7 different ways! Another thing to consider is that the item is versatile and can be worn both in dressy and casual situations. To ensure that you won’t regret it, make sure its something you have thought about for a while and is not an impulse buy. Lastly, make sure that it fits into your budget! At the end of the day, clothes are just material possessions and will not make you happier or more complete.

    wardrobe staple

free people easy street tunic // joggers // slippers

free people easy street tunic // faux leather pants // silver heels

free people easy street tunic // leopard skirt // booties

I usually splurge every year on a nice sweater. Free people is one of my favorite brands to splurge on because I know that I am getting great quality for my money. They are my weakness! A couple of years ago I bought the Ottoman tunic and wore it so many times! I finally had to give it away to goodwill because it had so many stains on it from over wearing! Mostly pizza and pasta sauce – haha!

I have been eyeing the easy street tunic for a while now, since the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, but was not ready to pull the trigger quite yet. It finally got marked down 50% off during Black Friday – which is the lowest I’ve seen it priced – so I finally broke down and made my purchase. You know I can’t resist a deal like that!

free people easy street tunic // faux leather leggings (similar here) // pom hat // plaid scarf // tennis shoes

As soon and I received this tunic in the mail, I decided to try to style it with the clothes that I already have and make as many outfits as I possibly could. It helps me to justify spending so much money on one piece of clothing! I went with my true size (medium) as I know this sweater is meant to be oversized and that is just the way I like it. I definitely could have fit into the small, but they didn’t have that size in stock when I ordered it.

I am so glad that I decided to splurge on this wardrobe staple! Besides its versatility, I love the way that it drapes and how you can wear it tucked or untucked. I will definitely be wearing this for years until i have to eventually retire it from my closet due to all the stains from wearing it non-stop!

Do you have any other principles when you are wanting to invest in your wardrobe. If so, I would love to hear how in the comments!
