I had the honor of trying Cryotherapy for the first time a few weeks back at Bare Med Spa. I had so much fun sipping on champagne, eating bites from Protein House, and chatting with all of the other ladies! Cryotherapy was definitely a new experience for me. Since it is an up and coming wellness treatment, I wanted to answer all of your questions about it! To sum it all up- I loved it! It was seriously invigorating and I felt so great afterwards! If you find that you have questions by the end of this post, please leave a comment!
WHAT IS CRYOTHERAPY?
Cryotherapy is the process of exposing the body to subzero temperatures. After stepping into a shoulder height chamber called a “cryosauna,” nitrogen air is released onto the body. It is basically a more pleasant way of taking an ice-bath. It lasts up to three minutes and body temperatures can drop down to thirty degrees.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF CRYOTHERAPY?
This extreme cooling process allows the body’s central nervous system to kick in and release endorphins, enhance circulation, and decrease inflammation. The body can burn up to 800 calories while trying to restore homeostasis. It has also been said to improve sleep, boost the immune system, and smooth wrinkles (bye bye cellulite!) Many top athletes use this to reduce muscle soreness and join inflammation.
Additional benefits according to kryolifehealth.com:
“Pain relief from joint disorders, rheumatoid diseases and fibromyalgia. Decreased muscle soreness, spasms and inflammation. Improved post-surgery recovery. Alleviation of depression, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, migraines and the effects of stress. Lowered incidence of colds and flu. Prevention of conditions like osteoporosis.”
“Faster recovery. Reduced inflammation, swelling and pain. Enhanced energy and endorphin release. Improved muscle and motor unit activation. Increased testosterone levels in men.”
“Reduced appearance of cellulite. Boosted metabolism, which promotes weight loss. Skin conditions mitigated — including psoriasis, blemishes and acne. Increases collagen production, which results in more even skin tone and reduced signs of aging.”
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Depending on where you live prices can vary. Many places offer a single sessions or packages of multiple sessions. Bare Med Spa offers a single session for $45 and packages for 3, 5, and 10 sessions ranging from $130-$360 or a monthly unlimited membership for $299.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RISKS OR CONTRAINDICATIONS?
You should not use cryotherapy if you are pregnant, have severe high blood pressure, blood clots, recent heart attack, kidney or urinary tract infection, uncontrolled seizures, fever, under the influence of drugs or alcohol, undergoing treatment for cancer, or have open wounds or ulcers.
HOW OFTEN CAN A PERSON USE CRYOTHERAPY?
Pro athletes will often have up to three sessions a day to her achieve peak performance. Each person’s frequency will be different depending on what you are trying to achieve. The benefits will be more noticeable the more frequently performed.
DOES IT HURT?
I felt a “pins and needles” sensation in my extremities which is normal and goes away quickly after stepping out into room temperature. The cold air does not contain moisture so it doesn’t feel as shocking as an ice-bath.
WHAT SORT OF DIFFERENCES WILL I FEEL AFTER?
This is different for everyone, and obviously the more frequently performed, the differences will be more noticeable. I personally felt instantly in a better mood. I’m not sure if this was due to endorphins or from the rush of being in such cool temperatures. I was very sore from a workout earlier in the week and felt less muscle soreness the next day, but not immediately after.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO FEEL THE EFFECTS?
According to kryolifehealth.com you should “feel immediate results, research has shown that you will experience improved and cumulative benefits with a minimum of ten sessions, within a two or three week period.
Hopefully I have made Cryotherapy seem like less of a mystery for you! If you have any more questions about Cryotherapy or any other services offered at Bare Med Spa, please comment below! I always love hearing from you!
